Who we are

Smith Wood PAT Testing is a Family run service.

We can test a variety of 240 volt portable appliances at the location that they are used, or at a central location if preferred, and these tests are undertaken to ensure that all equipment is safe to use for users.

All pass/fail results will be given to the owner, and all appliances will be labelled as pass or fail as appropriate.

We are sometimes asked whether a Business needs to have their equipment PAT Tested. The answer to this (somewhat surprisingly, perhaps) is no. The legal requirement is that all electrical equipment must be checked for safety, and the most effective way of doing this, is to PAT Test.

PAT Testing is now known as Electrical Equipment Testing, or EET. The shift from “PAT testing” to Electrical Equipment Testing (EET) comes from updates in industry standards and best practice documents. Organisations such as the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) now use broader terminology like ‘Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment’ in their Codes of Practice.
